Making metrics simple

Numbers in business get a bad rep.
Either they’re associated with complicated tax returns and forms with terminology we don’t understand.
Or with sales funnels and Facebook ads that both come with a large dose of mystery.
Neither feel good.
But I am a numbers geek at heart.
And I’m here to make a different case.
Not only do I think that tracking the numbers in your business plays an important role.
I also believe that it gets to be simple.
Insightful.
Enjoyable even.
And if you want to run a sustainable business, it’s vital.
Not so you can extract every last bit of profit from your work.
But so you can understand whether all the time, energy and effort you are putting in is indeed supporting you in return, in the way you need it to.
So you can make informed decisions that you feel confident in and conscious choices about what to do next.
Whether to continue with an offer that you sense is starting to fizzle out?
Whether to raise the price of something that is doing particularly well?
Whether investing in extra support is in fact a good idea for your bottom line?
Whether it’s time to hone in and streamline your services to something much simpler and more refined?
And when you start to do this over time things get even better.
You can spot trends and patterns.
Plan ahead for times that are busy and quiet.
Use your intuition but also have the numbers to understand what it is you are deciding between.
So many of us go into business for freedom, flexibility and to use our skills to do something impactful.
For this to be possible we need the bottom line of our business to support that.
Here’s to embracing the numbers.
If you’d like support in better understanding which offers are uniquely profitable for you and your business, beyond the finances alone, start with a foundations review.
We can work through the bottom line and figure out what’s working and what’s not. What needs to still be there come September and what won’t.
