How to build a business that nourishes both you and your clients - A checklist

From my own squiggly career I have found that being intentional about how I work is just as important as what I do. If you are a service based business owner such as a coach, consultant or wellness practitioner then how you deliver your services is a key part of what you put into your business and what you get back.

For your business to be sustainable for the long term, then the way you deliver your services has to be replenishing for you as the business owner as well as giving your customers what they need in a way that works for them.

In addition, the way you work is a great way to align your business with your values and contribute to the bigger scale change that you want to see in world.

Designing the right fit offer for both you, your clients and the world at large is an opportunity for creativity. I’ve put together the checklist below to help you see where your current offerings are hitting the mark and where things are missing or tweaks needed.

You can go through the checklist for your business as a whole, or start with your core offering. Start with a short yes or no and then highlight any questions that you want to come back to and look into in more depth.

Is your business (or offer) regenerative for you?

  • Do you feel proud and excited to promote it?

  • Do you feel clear on what it is and how to describe it?

  • Do you know how to find and enrol the people it is designed for?

  • Do you feel energised when someone signs up?

  • Do you have the time required to deliver this offer readily available?

  • Do you have the energy required to deliver this offer readily available?

  • Is it priced in a way that you feel well compensated for your time and expertise?

  • Is it structured in a way that allows you to rest, reflect, and integrate between sessions or cohorts?

  • Do you feel proud to share and be known for this offer?

Is it regenerative for your clients?

  • Does it offer a relevant solution for the stage your clients are at?

  • Does this offer support your clients’ growth in a sustainable, spacious way - does it allow them to honour their own pace?

  • Are your clients more empowered, resourced, or connected after working with you?

  • Does your sales process feel respectful and rooted in consent, rather than pressure or urgency?

  • Is there space for open and honest feedback within the experience?

  • Is the offer built around co-creation and collaboration?

  • Would you feel good being on the receiving end of this offer?

Is it regenerative for the wider world?

  • Does the way you deliver this offer align with your values?

  • Does it contribute to the change you want to see in the world?

  • Does it reduce harm—environmentally, socially, economically—or offer alternatives to dominant systems?

  • Are the tools, platforms, or partners you use aligned with your ethics where possible?

  • Does it convey your point of view, beyond the offer itself?

  • Does this offer plant seeds that deliver long term value?

I find going through this checklist can be a useful way to pinpoint something that feels off, or isn’t quite working in the way I expected. Often, it’s not dramatic changes that are required but small tweaks to get you back on track and balance out what you put in versus what you get out.

If you want to dive into this some more, my Foundations Review is a supportive, one-off session for service-based business owners who want to sense-check their core offer and delivery model. Together, we’ll look at what’s working, what’s not, and where small shifts could make your work feel more aligned, sustainable, and regenerative.
